Collection Alert: Sonya Winner

Theres a new range of rugs and cushions that have caught my eye! The latest collection from designer Sonya Winner was something I just had to share. As someone who loves colour, this collection really appeals to me. Sonya’s designs use vibrant colours which work beautifully together to create eye-catching products that will literally transform a space.

Jellybean Rug – Lime

Sonya has a wonderful design approach to her work. As a trained graphic designer she views her designs as complete pieces of art rather than repeating patterns and so her collection features block colours and playful shapes which add a lot of depth to a space. Sonya uses the colour as her starting point which I think is what makes this collection unique and striking and the kind of piece that when added to an interior can completely lift the mood of the space and bring an entire room to life.

All of the designs start out as hand sketches, paintings and collages which are then developed many times over and then ultimately passed to highly skilled craftsmen and woman who each specialise in different parts of the rug making process and who will bring the designs into life using the finest quality materials. The rugs are made entirely by hand in the foothills of Kathmandu and India.

The Jellybean rug is one of the latest designs from Sonya’s colourful collection. This design features Sonya’s signature style of layered translucent blends. Each colour palette contains four main colours which are then overlaid to create nine additional colours. I love the interesting arrangement of colour and shape that makes up these luxurious rugs!

Rothko – esque Deep

The brand has also launched another style in the collection, the Rothko – esque. Another stunning design with wonderful bold layers of colour, inspired by the work of abstract artist Paul Rothko. Sonya’s use of layered colour brings the rug to life, which adds texture and depth to a space. The colour rich designs create the illusion of movement in a space.

To complement the vibrant ranges Sonya has also produced a bold, colourful set of 4 cushions made from faux suede. The beautiful soft textured cushions have removable feather pads which make them additionally plump and luxurious.

What I really like about not just the latest range but every collection Sonya has produced, is that having been completely hand made, the quality is second to none. The designs are all vibrant and bursting with colour and no matter if you have a modern or traditional interior, these striking pieces will work well with an existing scheme.
